back to mathspeak.org
- Q. Can I download a demo copy of MathEQ?
- A. Yes, you can download a fully functional 30-day demo copy of MathEQ here: http://livemath.com/download/
- Q. Is there documentation for MathEQ?
- A. The documentation is being published in PDF for download. The process should be completed in the third quarter of 2003. You may download the completed portions here:

- Q. Will both JAWS and Window-Eyes read MathSpeak?
- A. Yes. Both screen readers read MathSpeak perfectly. Be sure you have
your Tool Tips in the General menu set to "auto" or "on" when using WE.
- Q. What outputs does MathEQ have aside from MathSpeak.
- A. MathEQ produces EPS, Metafile, Bitmap, png, XML, OLE objects (win), TeX, MathML and document-specific formats for Office, FrameMaker, InDesign, PageMaker, GoLive, Illustrator, Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Flash, Freehand, Firworks and others.
- Q. Has anyone tested your output Tex or Latex files to see if they work with braille translation software?
- A. Our consultants here in Cambridge are testing in that area now. Preliminary results look good. Please download a free 30-day demo and test it with your system. We'd love it if you would share your results with us. email

- Q. I sometimes need to print documents in 60 or 72 point fonts for some of my low vision students. Is the font size of the equations adjustable? If so, is there a limited size selection?
- A. The sizes of fonts and expressions may be changed, and there are many options. Select the font size in points that is best for your application.
- You can change the scale of the entire expression, and you can change the point size of individual elements -- on the fly, or in the preferences file.
- If your target is MS Word, you can increase the font size from the MathEQ palette to whatever you need, then copy and paste. If your target is an application which will take vector input, then you can scale the image within the target document.
- Q. Is it possible to add comments to the documents? For example, when I transcribe a textbook, I need both the text and the equations.
- A. If you create the equation in MathEQ and paste it into, e.g. MS Word, and you wish to add a caption of the math as it would be spoken by a mathematician, you may copy the MathSpeak phrase, then paste it into Word as a text caption.
- Q. How do MathEQ and LiveMath work with low vision students?
- A. In both programs font sizes can be increased proportionately across the document, as well as increased disproportionately in specific cases such as subscripts and superscripts, e.g. main equation components could be doubled in size as exponents were be tripled.
- Q. Does the same browser plug-in work for both MathEQ and LiveMath?
- A. The same plug-in works for both programs. This will enable you to
develop learning sites online which use both static and interactive math.
- Q. Can I copy an expression from LiveMath and put it into MathEQ?
- A. Yes. Expressions from LiveMath and MathEQ can be copied and pasted between the two programs.
- Q. Can the MathEQ palette buttons be enlarged?
- A. Yes, they can be made much bigger. The size of the buttons on the MathEQ palette are chosen in the preferences menu. Look in Preferences, Miscellaneous, Palette Button Size. Choose the size which works best with your screen resolution.
- Q. What if the MathSpeak option is not available (grayed out) in my MathEQ Windows version Edit Menu?
- A. If you do not see "MathSpeak This" as an option in the Edit Menu, please download the latest version of MathEQ. If you can see "MathSpeak This" as an option in your Windows version of MathEQ, but the item is grayed out, your system may need to be updated by installing these items from Microsoft.
